Her History

They say the lives of the ship and its captain are inextricable woven together, this, is more so true for Suellen. Lex Anderson, was not only her captain; Lex was also her vision. A one of a kind!

After months of planning, Lex hired architect and designer, Clive Caporn, to carry out all the design work, ensuring the vessel was constructed with the most modern engineering practices and was furnished with superior finishes. Swanson Bros, of Sydney boat building fame, commissioned her work in 1953 at one of Lex’s warehouses on Sydney’s north shore.

In 1954, Suellen was first moored at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Newport, for testing. Lex and crew took many runs up and down Pittwater to ensure she was running at peak performance. Later, when the family moved to Vaucluse, she was transferred to Royal Motor Yacht Club where Lex was nominated Commodore. There Suellen stood out, she was a very different vessel in performance, reliability and ascetics to others on the harbour. She quickly become known as one of Sydney’s iconic vessels and gained much attention.

Suellen was named by the family from the book ‘Gone with the wind’, her breathtaking appearance turning heads when-ever she entered the harbour.

Over the years Suellen has had many prominent guests and celebrities onboard, bought countless experiences to those who’ve been lucky enough to spend time on her.

A trip out on Suellen is nothing short of unique and extraordinary. Both the exterior and interior designs are timeless. Near 70 years of adoring glances is testimony to a timeless luxury vessel who still cruises along Sydney Harbour!

A note from Lex Anderson
Original owner/Captain

‘My wish is that any future owner gives the vessel the same tender, loving care that my family have given her over the years, and she will respond by giving you trouble free boating.”
